Workshop 1: Rigodon Chantons!

Sing and dance the heritage of New France! With responsorial songs and a few steps of jig, students will trace the life of the voyageurs and the habitant settlers of Old Quebec. At the same time they will experience several traditional musical instruments such as the spoons and accordion, as well as the épinette des Vosges and hurdy gurdy of France.

Workshop 2: Rigodon Fêtons!

Celebrate a traditional French holiday. Bring the culture to life right in the classroom at any time of the year :  l’épluchette de blé d’Inde, la Sainte-Catherine, Noël, la fête des Rois, la Chandeleur, la Mi-Carême, Pâques, and Carnaval and Mardi Gras. Students will participate in ancient traditions, taste seasonal specialties, sing responsorial songs and generally enter into “la joie de vivre “ that is French.

Andrea Haddad is a French teacher and performer with Mariposa In The Schools and plays for the Balfolk French dance community. She is also the author of the program « Rigodon », a program of classroom activities that reflect Francophone culture of North America.
